Charity projects

If their charitable works could gauge an actor's popularity, then it is no wonder that Johnny Depp is the best-liked and well-known figure in the entire planet. His many roles countered by his huge heart and conviction, Johnny stands behind his caring nature, humble and with meekness. Many accounts of personal kindness and charitable acts are substantiated by his outward, backing of several charitable causes.

Johnny's support of the Make A Wish Foundation is well-known. Johnny has said "in all our problems and everyday struggles, looking into the eyes of a dying child just brings it all in retrospect and you realize it's just not consequential." He donates frequent packages to these precious children and also visits them when possible. He allowed many of the children to attend the premieres of his Pirates movies and made sure they each had a front row seat to see Captain Jack in action. Johnny has participated in many charity auctions, by donating items to their charity events. He donated to the Julian house, which offers support to the homeless people of the Bath and North East Somerset area. He also donated a pair of his underwear to the Helen & Douglas House, which provides support and care for children and adults that are in need of hospice services in the UK. His donation raised 3,000!! He has donated and supported the Northampton Welfare Rights Advice Service and lent his handprint to the Celebrity Handprint auction, which benefits the BBC Children in Need and Great Ormand Street Hospital. His print will also be featured in their new book that will be released on December 5, 2007. While many may think that his heart is especially soft for the children, they might not realize that he also supports the Dogs Deserve Better charity, which offers help to canines that are chained and mistreated by their humans. While his list of charitable offerings may go on, Johnny is not one to stand at the way side and offer only financial means. He personally answered phones for hours at the Tsunami relief fund after the great disaster, accepting donations to aid those affected

Many famous and influential people give and donate of their assets to charity, but it must be a unique and special soul to inspire his fans to start up their own charity in his name; Johnny can add this to his lists of accomplishments as he now has his own philanthropic charity group named "Johnny's Angels." Not directly affiliated with Johnny personally, his fans have formed this charity to benefit one of his favorite charities, the Children's Hospice Coalition. Moved by Johnny's heart and the fact that he has worn a bracelet in memory of the little boy Dustin from the Hospice, Donna Giachetti started this grassroots charity project to express her admiration for Johnny and her concern for these children. In its first few months, Johnny's Angels has garnered members around the entire globe and has raised over 5,000 for the Children's Hospice Coalition as a way of honoring Johnny Depp and these children's courage. Now aided by other Johnny supporters, her charity is one of the first of its kind showing what kind of soul Johnny Depp possesses to inspire this kind of giving in others.

In 2006 Johnny received the Courage To Care Award presented by Los Angeles Childrens Hospital for his great work with the Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition rounding out his well-deserved awards. "Johnny Depp embodies the very spirit of the `Courage to Care' Award because he puts smiles on the faces of thousands of children through his great work on film, and his longtime private advocacy of children and children's charities is nothing short of inspirational," says Ms. Fernandez-Farrand, a member of the Children's Hospital Los Angeles Board of Trustees. Any admirer of Johnny will know that this is a award that truly means something special to him. While not looking for acknowledgments or accolades, Johnny is truly one that has a true heart of a saint and will surely add on to his many charitable causes as time goes on.
